Myanma Apex Bank to celebrate 10th anniversary with donations to education

Myanma Apex Bank (MAB) has announced its upcoming “Better Giving” corporate social responsibility program to provide for improved education by donating towards teacher pay at monastic schools in Yangon. The announcement was made at MAB’s Towards Tomorrow Conference on December 19, at the Melia Hotel in Yangon.

The “Better Giving” program is designed as a way for MAB to give back to the country and thank the Myanmar community and its customers for their 10 years of support since the opening of the first MAB bank branch in July 2010. The program will consist of MAB contributing 10 MMK to a pre-determined charity for every 100,000 MMK deposited by MAB customers during the first six months of 2020. These donated funds will be entirely diverted from MAB’s potential profits, with nothing taken from its customers’ accounts.

While MAB has engaged in other corporate social responsibility programs before including blood donation drives, “Better Giving” is set to be its largest-scale program yet.

“To commemorate our 10-year anniversary, Myanma Apex Bank would like to contribute something good to our community,” said Daw Eden Tharnghaki, Vice President of Sales & Distribution at Consumer Banking Department, Myanma Apex Bank. “I see it as not just a donation from MAB, but from our customers as well. I hope that the success of this program will enable us to engage in many more charitable ventures in the future.”

A portion of the donations will be used to provide additional pay on top of teacher salaries for the next three years at Myaing monastic education school and Dhammasariya monastic education school, starting in July 2020, the birth month of MAB. To do so, MAB will open corporate accounts for these schools, with the intention to educate the donees on money growth and multiply their funds in coming years. While the accounts will be owned by the respective schools, teachers will be able to take out the cash directly at any MAB ATM. The funds are not intended to replace teacher salaries, but rather to augment them and thereby enable qualified teachers to make a better living, thus encouraging them to continue in their profession. MAB will also contribute their donations in school building, and furniture donations at BEHS (Htan Ta Pin) township.
